Bartels Breezy Dairy 1/2 of Manure Storage Facility
Waupaca, WI

7.5 lbs of Forta Ferro
Since 2002, Dan Large from FRC has requested that Macro bers be listed in the NRCS specifications for this application. After a meeting in June 2012 with NRCS, DNR, and USDA o cials, a verbal agreement was reached to install “pilot” projects to compare the performance of 7.5 lbs of Macro ber to the long time rebar specifications. Scott Spiegelberg, owner of Spiegelberg Implement, has been installing manure storage facilities since the 1980’s. Scott has witnessed and implemented many improvements in construction methods that have occurred over the years.
He described the use of Forta Ferro as a welcomed improvement within this application. Three-dimensional reinforcement throughout the slab as well as acid resistance are two of the many bene ts of Forta Ferro. Fiber reinforcement also eliminates the di cullties that can occur when there is rainfall between the placement of rebar and the concrete pour. Scott states that rainfall is an even greater problem when using beneficial products like foundry sand as the base. Using Forta Ferro fibers allows you to leave the entire manure storage facility open, with no obstructions, right up to the time of the concrete placement.
Several follow-up visits, the last being in August 2013, indicate that Forta Ferro fibers are serving the application very well.
